Spotify settles class-action lawsuit to the tune of $112.5M

The lawsuit was originally filed by Camper Van Beethoven’s David Lowery and then combined with another lawsuit brought by Melissa Ferrick.

The settlement was, indeed, over $112 million USD, but it comes with a cash payment of of $43.55 million to the class-action members.

But, it isn’t over for the streaming giant. Other copyright disputes are still ongoing, like the $1.6 billion USD lawsuit filed by Wixen Music Publishing. That suit alleges Spotify is using “thousands of songs” without having the proper license for them. The Verge dives in deeper to discuss the law at the heart of the complaint.
