Breast milk jeweler owes customers $10,000 in refunds

The Wakefield, Rhode Island-based MommyMilk Creations received a number of complaints from at least 100 customers last summer, with some of them saying they have waited as long as two years for their products, according to CTV News.

One dissatisfied customer wrote to the Better Business Bureau in July 2015, saying: “There has been zero communication with the owner as my countless emails to her have gone unanswered. She is a bad business owner with horrible customer service. If you are considering purchasing breast milk jewelry do not purchase from this company.”

All the Customer reviews were negative and all the complaints centered on a failure of the business to respond to any emails, as well as the poor customer service. Customers readily sent their money with their orders and that was the last any of them heard from the company.

Martha Crippen, the Director of the Consumer Protection Unit for Rhode Island told WPRI News that they now have over 100 complaints and they’re still coming in. “We have them from all over the country,” said Crippen. “We have them from all over the world. We have Australia. We have Spain. We have Canada.”

Last month, Attorney General Peter Kilmartin filed a lawsuit in Superior Court against the company and its owner, Allicia Mogavero, giving the company 20 days to respond to the lawsuit. Kilmartin’s office says women sent in their breast milk and anywhere from $90 to $250 for keepsakes they have never received. Some women placed their orders back in 2013.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear friend Karen Graham, who served as Editor-at-Large at Digital Journal. She was 78 years old. Karen's view of what is happening in our world was colored by her love of history and how the past influences events taking place today. Her belief in humankind's part in the care of the planet and our environment has led her to focus on the need for action in dealing with climate change. It was said by Geoffrey C. Ward, "Journalism is merely history's first draft." Everyone who writes about what is happening today is indeed, writing a small part of our history.
