Review: PRPLI celebrates 27th anniversary with Awards Dinner ceremony (Includes first-hand account)

Rachael Risinger and Donna Rivera-Downey, the co-chairs of the award ceremony, made the welcoming remarks; moreover, Ms. Kali Chan (who was voted “Best Publicist on Long Island” in this year’s “Best of Long Island” competition), who serves as president of PRPLI, made the opening remarks, and thanked all of the sponsors that made this evening possible.

Two PRPLI scholarships were presented to Emily Elefonte and Vincent Frazzetto, and Ms. Carley Weinstein, the social media manager of Hofstra University was presented with the “Rising Star Award” from Ms. Ginny Greenberg, the PR Director of Hofstra University.

Ms. Ellen Frisina, an Associate Professor of Public Relations at Hofstra University was the recipient of the “Howard M. Blankman Outstanding Mentor Award.” Most impressive about Ms. Frisina’s award is that it was presented to her by Ms. Laurie Bloom, who was one of the people that she mentored, so it was extra special for her.

Veteran reporter, editor and columnist Joe Dowd was presented the “Outstanding Media Professional Award,” which recognized his illustrious career in journalism.

After dinner, the two final awards of the night were presented. “The Long Island Achievement Award” went to Ms. Randi Shubin Dresner, the president and CEO of the Island Harvest Food Bank. While she was not there to accept the award, a video presentation of her gracious acceptance speech was shown on her behalf, as she congratulated all of this year’s honorees. Last but not least, Mr. Kevin Ryan was presented with the “Jack Rettaliata Lifetime Achievement Award,” in a speech that was witty, clever and sentimental.

PRPLI was voted “Best Networking Group” by the 2017 “Best of Long Island,” and rightfully so. For more information on PRPLI, check out their official website.
