On Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto, Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Ltd. staged an impressive imaging and printing event for the media. They introduced an expanded portfolio of multifunction products (MFPs), services, software and support options to make it easier for businesses to reduce costs by managing information globally from a single integrated device.
As technology developments drive enormous changes in office productivity and workflow, convergence (the consolidation of faxing, copying, scanning, and printing into one device) has emerged as a clear imaging and printing trend. Convergence simplifies the way we work and communicate, reduces costs and improves operational efficiency.
Three new HP LaserJet MFP business systems allow organizations to capture,
integrate, archive and distribute information to optimize productivity and
streamline communications. Engineered to improve operational efficiency,
reduce costs and increase productivity, the systems can aid businesses of
all sizes. By enabling users to print, copy, colour scan, fax and digitally
send documents to Internet and e-mail addresses, HP MFP business systems
can help customers optimize their work environments without sacrificing
user access, convenience or productivity.
In addition, the new portfolio is designed to simplify IT infrastructures
by providing organizations with the HP services, products and support they
need to standardize on HP configurations and supplies management, robust
networking connectivity and management solutions, and Internet-enabled
printing.
In addition to the MFP systems, HP unveiled its first large-format HP
Designjet colour copier for technical professionals and an external print
server that allows workgroups to share HP USB-supported printers on a
network or across the Internet.
“For many of our customers, MFPs represent a key opportunity to reduce
costs and improve productivity within their enterprises,” stated Jean-Paul
Desmarais, category manager for LaserJet Multifunction Printers at HP
Canada. “We believe the customer value delivered by these business systems
will play a critical role in accelerating HP’s growth in this evolving
market. Additionally, customers can expect to see a further broadening of
our multifunction product and solutions offerings as HP continues to
aggressively invest in this area.”
HP LaserJet Multifunction Printer
Designed for the small business, home office and small workgroup user, the
HP LaserJet 3300mfp series provides both Windows(r) and Macintosh owners
with reliable network printing, versatile copying, high-quality colour
scanning and send-to-email capabilities. Equipped with an engine that
prints at 15 pages per minute (ppm) and copies at 14 ppm, the HP LaserJet
3300mfp series achieves professional results on a variety of media.
The HP LaserJet 4100mfp is a compact, intelligent network multifunction
printer that offers fast, efficient printing, copying, colour scanning and
digital sending for business workgroups with shared printing and copying
needs. Small, medium and large organizations can use the robust 25 ppm
print and copy engine, embedded send-to-email capabilities and optional
digital sending software to maximize document management and distribution
capabilities.
A high-performance, high-volume network multifunction system, the HP
LaserJet 9000mfp is designed for large workgroups and departments with
shared needs for fast network printing, copying, faxing, embedded
send-to-email and robust paper handling.
With print and copy speeds of 50 ppm and a wide range of document finishing options, the HP LaserJet 9000mfp can quickly and easily turn digital
documents into ready-to-use booklets. An optional digital sending software
package expands document management and distribution capabilities.
HP Copier and External Print Server
Developed for architects and engineers, the HP Designjet Copier cc800ps
provides the convenience of in-house colour copying, printing and scanning
of wide, large-format documents for less than the cost of digital,
monochrome alternatives. The integrated design makes it an ideal addition
to any business that wants high-resolution, high-quality colour operation
on demand.
Compatible with HP Web Jetadmin printer management software and equipped with an embedded Web server for diagnostics and supplies ordering, the HP Jetdirect external print server can link to network-capable printers with USB ports in most Ethernet/Fast Ethernet operating environments.
HP Services and Support
In addition to flexible leasing solutions, HP customers have an integrated
financing service for purchasing their new MFP business systems. HP Managed Print Services is an outsourcing service for large, distributed
environments. Through the HP Managed Print Services program, qualified
professionals provide analysis, design, implementation and management
services to reduce costs and increase workplace productivity. Flexible
payment options, including pay-per-page and monthly pay programs, are
available at http://www.printservices.hp.com.
HP and Partner Solutions
To simplify the integration of paper documents into business communications
systems, HP is offering HP and partner-developed applications to address
key business needs.

Optional MFP digital sending software enables users to distribute
information securely via Novell and Windows authentication to Internet and
LAN fax servers, network folders and workflow applications. When combined
with Notable Solution Inc.’s AutoStore 2002 software and Microsoft(r)
Sharepoint Portal Server, customers have an integrated document management solution to capture, route, store, archive and retrieve information. Additional HP and partner applications simplify electronic filing processes, deliver documents securely over the Internet, and more.
