Navigating tax technology often feels like deciphering an obscure language, one that few speak fluently. But Sanju Sriram, a seasoned engineer and dynamic innovator, speaks this language effortlessly. Her passion lies in translating complex regulatory requirements into clear, technology-driven solutions, reshaping how organizations manage federal excise taxes in an ever-changing regulatory landscape.
An engineer’s vision for compliance clarity
Sanju’s unique approach stems from her diverse experiences across technology sectors, from Marketing Technology to high-stakes financial services. These roles taught her to address complex, regulated environments creatively, giving her the rare ability to see solutions clearly where others see only confusion. She frequently stresses the importance of creating systems that do not just automate but also educate and guide users toward compliance with confidence and minimal anxiety.
Sanju’s most recent project, Simple720 has positioned her at the intersection of engineering and design. Simple720 is an online platform specializing in simplifying the e-filing process for IRS Form 720, the Quarterly Federal Excise Tax Return. The platform aims to provide a streamlined, cost-effective, and time-efficient service for businesses and individuals required to file this form.
She highlights that effective technology should ‘speak human’, creating accessible, intuitive experiences that remove intimidation from compliance processes. This is what she has strived to do through her innovative tax e-filing platform.
Through the platform’s technology, she has pinpointed areas of friction that even seasoned tax professionals find challenging and engineered digital solutions which alleviate these pain points.
Sanju says that in innovating the platform she had to put her engineering hat aside, and think how those seeking easy tax e-filing online would think. She believes that because of its simplicity, it has the potential to reshape the public’s experience of e-filing.
Transformative trends in tax technology
The tax technology world is currently witnessing transformative trends, including the integration of blockchain for transaction transparency, real-time tax liability calculation, and comprehensive analytics to anticipate compliance risks proactively. Sanju actively participates in discussions about these advancements, advocating for systems designed around predictive analytics and transparent data management, which offer tax professionals real-time insight into their obligations and compliance status.
Her forward-thinking insights include leveraging advanced computational techniques to dynamically manage complex tax datasets and regulatory changes, providing users with predictive alerts and actionable intelligence. Sanju’s perspective is clear: modern tax technology must offer more than simple filing solutions. It should empower organizations to predict compliance scenarios, allowing proactive management rather than reactive scrambling.
A thought leader in tax technology
As a leader in her profession, Sanju regularly contributes to industry forums, conferences, and think tanks, consistently pushing forward conversations on compliance innovation and the future of digital taxation. Her presentations often highlight emerging trends, such as artificial intelligence-driven compliance predictions and blockchain-enabled audit trails, positioning her as a visionary in shaping next-generation tax systems.
Her voice carries significant weight, not merely because of her technical expertise but due to her clarity in communicating complex issues in relatable terms. Sanju uniquely bridges the technical with the practical, making advanced tax compliance accessible and understandable.
“Tax is an inevitable part of life,” says Sanju. “As a software engineer, I have watched my industry change in recent years as technology has advanced. AI is going to change the industry even more in coming years,” she continues. However, in spite of these anticipated changes, tax is here to stay, she believes.
She adds: “No-one likes to consider tax. It can be frustrating and complicated for businesses and individuals. However, while I can’t develop a system to take taxes away, I have been able to develop something to make it simpler.”
Sanju’s technological innovations draw inspiration not just from her engineering roots but also from her understanding of her users and their specific needs. Her mantra of simplicity and user accessibility has permeated every solution she designs.
Her solutions also integrate multi-layered encryption, secure data transit, and stringent authentication protocols, aligning seamlessly with stringent compliance mandates. This means that the platform isn’t only user-friendly, but is also safe.
She says when she and her team developed Simple720, they did trial runs with the public. “When gaming developers develop games, they allow the public to test the games to see whether they are user-friendly. This is very much how we tested the Simple720 system. We wanted to make sure everyone and anyone can use it.”
Championing an innovative future
Sanju’s vision is to be instrumental in shaping the future of how businesses worldwide interact with regulatory environments.
The success of her project has shown that she is on the right track to doing this. Major companies, including Ernst & Young and Nike, are now using the system, and Sanju believes this circle of influence will continue to expand in the coming months.
