The concept of the ‘green economy’ is one where growth in employment and income are driven by public and private investment into economic activities, infrastructure and assets, where the additional aim is to improve the environment. This stands in contrast to most of the economic activity since the industrial revolution which has pushed the planet in the reverse direction.
This includes technologies that allow reduced carbon emissions and pollution, enhanced energy and resource efficiency, and prevention of the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services.
Whether ‘green capitalism’ is achievable or presents an unresolvable paradox is debatable. However, there are many firms seeking to redress industrial damage to the environment by engaging in businesses activities that keep carbon release neutral or which go further and attempt to turn the tide.
Recently President Biden signed the $1 trillion infrastructure bill aimed at rebuilding roads, bridges and rails throughout the U.S. As cities gear up to spend millions it’s no understatement to say government agencies must identify the right partners to not only modernize our infrastructure but also ensure sustainability.
One area where larger firms can look towards is startups that are emerging and expanding within the green energy space.
The firm Digi International, a global provider of IoT connectivity products and services, has announced the winners of their second annual Green Tech Customer Innovation Awards.
