In an industry often marked by unethical practices and dissatisfied customers, one company’s chance beginnings have led to a genuine commitment to making a difference in people’s lives. As one of the leading providers of roofing and remodeling services, award-winning R&B Roofing and Remodeling has not only built a reputation for excellence in the Kentuckiana region but has also demonstrated the power of combining passion with opportunity.
With a strong emphasis on ethical business practices, principled management of finances, and innovative marketing strategies, R&B Roofing and Remodeling is changing the face of the home improvement sector.
Founded in 2009 by Scott Waldman, a former IT professional, the company has grown beyond its humble origins to become a prime example of what happens when commitment to customer satisfaction and well-being come together.
“It was pure chance that led me to the industry. I’d spent my entire career working in IT, so I never imagined I’d switch to such a different field,” Waldman shares. “I was semi-retired, when a friend came to me saying he might get arrested for theft by deception. The owners of the roofing company he worked for had taken deposits for 12 roofs and disappeared.”
Despite gaining no profit, Waldman helped his friend finish the project. As they worked together, he saw the potential to create a successful business and make a positive change in the industry by applying clever marketing strategies and upholding high ethical standards.
Waldman started fitting the puzzle pieces together and founded R&B Roofing and Remodeling with the aim of focusing more on the value the company could provide to the customers rather than competing solely on price.
With the impact his friend and he had left on the almost-botched roofing project lingering in his mind, Waldman went on to build his company on the principles of exceptional service, timely delivery, fair pricing, and top-notch quality.
“What I instantly loved about the business was the ability to change lives. When I put a roof on a house or remodel a kitchen or bathroom, I can see the homeowners’ excitement. Many in the industry concentrate on the job, not the final results. I wanted to focus on the bigger picture and make a lasting impact,” Waldman explains.
R&B Roofing and Remodeling has aimed to be a one-stop solution for clients since its inception, providing full-range in-house remodeling services without outsourcing. Moreover, rather than imitating competitors, they have prioritized innovation, resulting in an expanding customer base and consistent growth without price dependency.
Owing to their business’s success, as part of their growth strategy R&B Roofing and Remodeling has not only expanded by opening offices in locations outside of Kentuckiana, but has also acquired other, smaller companies in order to reach more marketplaces. When acquiring other companies, they choose to co-brand at first, ensuring a smooth transition for customers who are familiar with the acquired company’s reputation and brand recognition.
“We’re still actively seeking for more companies to acquire,” Waldman shares. “It can be a slow process, but good things do take time, and I believe that soon enough, we’ll have reached our main objective, which is national expansion.”
Waldman’s dedication to change and the desire to help both people and the environment has resulted in a company that prides itself both on innovation and philanthropy. As market pioneers, R&B Roofing and Remodeling have helped thousands of families and have collaborated with organizations such as the Salvation Army, which has ranked them as third in philanthropy among companies of their size in Kentucky.
“Despite our tremendous success, my focus is and always will be on the people,” Waldman says. “When you’re in the position to give back to the community as much as we have, pure profit becomes secondary. Of course, I’m as ambitious as ever to keep on expanding the business, but I want to make sure that I reach out and help as many people as I can along the way.”
