It’s likely the most anticipated Glock ever to be released. In fact, that’s exactly what the company is saying about the new model 43, a single stack 9mm handgun that was officially unveiled today. Many were speculating that the newest offering from Glock would be a single stack 9mm, considering the massive demand from customers in recent years. The company began releasing teaser ads earlier this month, suggesting that a new product would be coming this spring. They finally confirmed that a new product would be unveiled and while details about the model 43 were leaked onto the internet earlier this week, Glock didn’t officially announce the gun until today.
With the slimline model 36 in .45 ACP and the small .380 model 42 already on the market, the new model 43 is not the first single stack gun released by Glock. It is, however, their first single stack 9mm and it’s basically a slimmed down version of their model 26. With an overall length of 6.26 inches and a height of 4.25 inches, the new gun has a profile that’s very similar to the subcompact 26, which is one of Glock’s most popular concealed carry pieces. The 1.02 inch width of the 43, however, is a lot closer to that of the slim model 42.
The G43 holds 6 rounds of 9mm in the magazine, plus one in the chamber and weighs in at nearly 18 ounces with an unloaded magazine. Because the gun is a single stack, it will not function with magazines for the existing 9mm Glocks. (the models 17, 19, 26 and 34) Glock has not yet mentioned any sort of follow up with a similar gun chambered in .40 S&W but because every other 9mm Glock on the market currently has a .40 caliber counterpart, some are already assuming that one could be in the works at some point in the future.
The Glock 43 is the fourth gun the company has released in the last two years, with the release of the models 41 and 42 last year and the release of the model 40 earlier this year.
