Unfortunately, middle-aged women of color are more likely to face unique health challenges — mainly due to the failings of the traditional healthcare system. The glaring disparity between the knowledge bases of men’s and women’s health remains a significant issue to this day, and racial stereotypes surrounding women of color’s healthcare have similarly persisted.
Dr. Soyini Powell is an OBGYN and certified nutrition health coach aiming to create change, whose own journey has inspired a new approach to women’s health.
Expertise and understanding
Based on her own experience, Dr. Powell founded Balance to Bloom. This holistic longevity organization integrates cultural understanding, medical expertise, and traditional practices to empower midlife women of color to lead healthier, longer lives.
Dr. Powell has over 40 years of medical expertise as an OBGYN, dedicating her skills to addressing the needs of midlife women. With firsthand experience from her transformative health journey, she founded Balance to Bloom to take advantage of her Western medical training and Eastern holistic health, establishing a practice catered to disease prevention and long-term wellness.
“A certified OBGYN and nutrition health coach,” a Balance to Bloom representative said, “Dr. Soyini Powell empowers midlife women to achieve health and longevity through evidence-based, mind-body wellness practices that are holistic, personalized, and transformative.”
Addressing “one-size-fits-all” wellness
A significant factor behind the founding of Balance to Bloom was the prevalence of one-size-fits-all wellness programs in traditional healthcare. Dr. Powell understands that demographic needs and concerns cannot be overlooked if long-term health is to be achieved. Women facing chronic stress, inflammation, age-related diseases, and the lack of culturally resonant health resources can rely on Dr. Powell to understand their needs and find lasting solutions.
Helping middle-aged women of color find lasting health
Middle-aged women of color seek ways to achieve sustained vitality, take control of their health choices, prevent or reverse chronic disease, and optimize their overall quality of life naturally. Facing systemic health disparities and a lack of cultural understanding, Balance to Bloom is a culturally resonant approach to longevity. It does not rely wholly on standard Western practice but incorporates wisdom from Eastern wellness.
Advanced medicine, traditional wellness
Balance to Bloom’s integration of advanced medicine and traditional wellness helps patients regain sustained vitality. Dr. Powell’s organization provides women with personalized nutrition and lifestyle programs, cutting-edge practices like nutrigenomics and inflammation management, and accessible resources tailored to cultural needs. Her programs help women use tools and strategies like time-restricted eating, breathwork, and mindfulness to build a proactive and self-sustaining approach to health.
Community
The Balance to Bloom website has also created a community where holistic health meets traditional medicine with free resources, including wellness guides, program details, and upcoming workshops. The organization is on social media, where it keeps its followers updated on what’s new for Balance to Bloom and posts daily inspiration alongside expert advice.
