OTTAWA – From January 23 to January 28, Brian Tobin,
Minister of Industry will visit Germany and Switzerland.
On January 23 and 24, Minister Tobin will be in Munich, Germany. On
Tuesday, January 23, he will meet with Professor Peter Pribilla, of Siemens
AG. Minister Tobin and Prof. Pribilla will discuss Siemens’ investments in
Canada.
On Wednesday, January 24, Minister Tobin will meet with Bavaria’s Minister
President Edmund Stoiber. Minister Tobin will take this opportunity to
discuss the role of German investments in Canada, particularly those from
Bavarian firms.
He will also attend an investment luncheon for Bavarian business leaders
interested in investments in Canada, where he will promote Canada as a
strong destination for NAFTA-bound investment.
On Thursday, January 25, Minister Tobin will travel to Zurich, Switzerland.
While there, he will attend a Canadian Swiss Association Luncheon, where he
will deliver a short speech on why Canada is an attractive place to in which
to invest and to do business.
Minister Tobin will then travel to Davos, Switzerland, where he will attend
the World Economic Forum (WEF).
On Friday, January 26, Minister Tobin will host a ministerial investment
lunch. He will highlight key initiatives of the Government of Canada to
encourage foreign investment, and to gather information and comments about
policies governing foreign investment in Canada.
That evening, Minister Tobin will attend the Canada Reception, hosted by the
Government of Canada and the Business Council on National Issues (BCNI).
He will then move on to a panel discussion titled “The Great Productivity
Revolution?” where he will discuss the Government of Canada’s progress in
boosting national productivity.
On Saturday, January 27, Minister Tobin will attend a Canada Contact
luncheon and briefing, where he will give brief remarks and then participate
in a question and answer session.
