Louise Phillips Forbes is a real estate professional with a list of accolades and more than $4.5 billion in sales to her credit. She has fostered strong relationships and is regarded by clients and colleagues alike for her market insights, thoughtful guidance, consummate professionalism, and the passion with which she approaches each interaction.

With $800 dollars in her pocket, Louise moved to New York in 1987 from her hometown of Nashville, Tennessee to pursue a career in dance. After sustaining an injury, she identified her next act: A career in real estate.

Forbes tells Digital Journal that building a business is not easy. She explains that personal support is very important. Forbes explains: “When you have the privilege of doing business with people you know, they become part of the fabric of your life, and working, quite frankly, just feels like living with a purpose.”

Forbes says she has found purpose in being of service to others through her role and background as an educator. With this her business tip is: “By honing your craft and authentically sharing your knowledge, your time and yourself, you will attract people naturally and will never find yourself in a constant or forced cycle of promotion.”

For when setbacks occur, Forbes offers the following advice: “Every moment, especially a setback, is an opportunity to self-evaluate and not take yourself so seriously. Own the mistake, as humility is a part of who we are and hopefully will be a constant shaper of who we become. And if you can practice that with transparency in all of your affairs, you will never stop growing as a professional and a person.”

Forbes was found to have dyslexia, but rather than hold her back, Forbes celebrates it as a gift and it enables her to “retain and recall massive amounts of data, visualize spaces, and simultaneously make sense of all of the moving parts to benefit her clients and bolster her business.”

Forbes’ final item of business life is “Don’t be afraid to learn something new about yourself”. She imparts the following: “The most valuable investment you can make is one in yourself. Whether it is through introspective personal time, working with a trusted mentor, or engaging a professional coach, you should learn something new about yourself each day. This new knowledge will empower you to make bold decisions and view your path through a different lens.”
