Jerald Selvaraj brings over 20 years of experience designing digital platforms that help companies improve operations, business growth, and customer engagement. His work focuses on creating flexible, scalable applications and platforms that support complex business processes and streamline customer experience and campaign workflows. Selvaraj has built platforms that enhance efficiency and deliver consistent outcomes, from healthcare to finance to travel and hospitality.

He currently leads the architecture of cloud-based marketing and patient engagement platforms for teams at a leading pharmaceutical company in the U.S. Earlier in his career, he held senior roles at Mindtree, Sapient, and Wipro Technologies, leading projects for clients such as Citigroup, Allstate Insurance, and Charles Schwab. His approach prioritizes building reusable, scalable, and extensible applications and platforms that adapt to changing business needs.

Unifying digital platforms for multiple leading car rental brands

Jerald’s one significant achievement was restructuring North America’s leading car rental digital presence, which lacked compatibility and flexibility, thereby creating challenges for customers regarding maintenance, resulting in high ownership costs, and was marked by deficiencies in speed following a series of acquisitions. The company managed multiple brand websites with separate infrastructures, which slowed business campaign marketing rollouts, maintenance, and feature rollouts.

To address these challenges, Jerald designed a digital platform supporting 16 websites across six brands. His team implemented a headless content management system, reusable component libraries, layered APIs, and responsive web templates. Structured around modular elements, the platform enabled each brand to maintain its identity while operating on a single system—a design approach that helps reduce operation maintenance significantly.

“We designed it to operate efficiently and expand as needed,” Selvaraj explains. “We created a reusable platform component design that enabled the business to manage content and allowed engineering teams to focus on improvements.”

After deployment, development cycles improved by a significant percent, operational costs declined by a significant percent, and revenue increased within a year. Mobile bookings rose, and marketing teams gained the ability to launch campaigns independently using prebuilt templates and automation tools.

Extending platform strategy into finance and insurance

Selvaraj applied this modular platform strategy in other industries. Citigroup implemented a secure web platform application that gave financial advisors easier access to financial planning across multiple websites. At Allstate Insurance, he worked on a digital portal application that supported policy management and agent service delivery.

He also contributed to projects for the Illinois Lottery website, Kellogg’s, and Charles Schwab. Across these engagements, he adapted innovative design approaches, reusable components, and automation strategies to align with various business requirements while maintaining consistency in platform performance and cost-effective operational effectiveness.

He focuses on creating integrated systems that improve speed and user experience. “The technical issues we observe across different sectors are often similar; however, they come with distinct challenges and unique contexts. This creates a common pattern, but the solutions must adhere to a shared standard,” he notes.

Delivering business outcomes through design

Selvaraj manages cross-functional teams and works with vendors including Adobe, AWS, MuleSoft, Google, Apple, and Rackspace. His platform designs are built to promote business agility, integrate real-time data, and comply with privacy standards.

Adobe recognized his work with the leading car rental company’s digital platform by presenting his team with its Experience Business Excellence Award in 2018. His contributions at the leading pharma company also helped the company become a winner in the 2024 Adobe Experience Maker Awards.

His team developed Leading Pharma’s engagement platform using modern marketing technology: Adobe Experience Manager, Adobe Experience Platform, Adobe Campaign, Journey Optimizer, Customer Journey Analytics, MuleSoft, REST API, web services, and Healthcare Shield. Their work led to a significant increase in web conversion rates and a  rise in site engagement. This benefited the expansion of customer reach, reduced campaign launch times, and improved conversion rates across digital channels.

He directed the development of an SMS onboarding application for patients. Transitioning from a third-party provider to an internal system allowed the organization to reduce related costs by more than a million annually. The team also developed numerous micro-digital experiences that supported patient and healthcare provider interactions.

Building platform success across sectors

Selvaraj continues to work on application and platform architecture that supports targeted communication and complies with privacy regulations. His platforms currently serve over six million patients and one million healthcare professionals in the United States. The design can also be applied to sectors such as retail.

He states that technical systems play a role in business performance. By translating requirements into scalable systems, Selvaraj helps companies adjust to new demands and maintain operational consistency.

His focus on digital infrastructure aligns with current trends. The global digital transformation market is projected to reach $3.5 trillion by 2025, indicating ongoing investment in flexible digital systems across industries.
