In an act of corporate compassion, AT&T is offering free wireless Internet access and phones to residents of Southern California. AT&T said they want to help families and friends reconnect during the sorrowful aftermath of the California fires.
Digital Journal — Nearly 600 WiFi hotspots will provide free wireless access to SoCal residents, in areas such as San Diego, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Orange and Ventura counties. Available free since Oct. 24, the complete list of free WiFi hotspots in the region can be viewed here.
Kieran Nolan, AT&T vice president and general manager, Los Angeles area, said in a press release:
By enabling free Wi-Fi at hundreds of AT&T hot spot locations, we’re hoping to provide families and friends with another way to stay connected — and to reconnect — throughout this difficult time.
Also, AT&T is showing compassion with another freebie: it recently released 2,000 GoPhone devices with $10 in air time to residents from mandatory evacuation areas. The phones are provided on a first-come first-serve basis, and applicants must be 16 years old and over.
