As Javier Caruso and the Webstarted team achieve their 2023 goal of harnessing the power of startup-investor conferences, they are gearing up to implement AI on two fronts of remote employee recruitment for tech firms.

The Webstarted team recently returned from a West Coast trip that brought them to two conferences in Seattle and one each in Silicon Valley and San Diego. The buzz at all four events centered on AI, which in recent months has garnered much attention in the media and is driving many aspects of the tech world.

For Javier, the ramping up of AI will streamline Webstarted’s branded approach to linking remote software engineers in Latin America with tech firms located in the U.S. and abroad.

First up is the implementation of AI in Webstarted’s internal operations.

“We are going to make better connections between candidates and job offers,” said Javier, Webstarted CEO.

Webstarted with AI will be building upon the matching mechanism it already has in place.

The firm has a database of 44,000 software engineer candidates, 93 percent of whom are based in Latin America. For any given position that needs to be filled, the company’s software currently generates a list of about 200 candidates. The AI will narrow that list even further, and select the best four-to-five candidates from that pool of 200.

Webstarted will also incorporate AI into its sales operations.

The second way in which AI is likely to change Webstarted’s approach to filling software engineer positions is the triggering of changes in roles. Javier said this is likely to begin with existing quality assurance and developer positions that Webstarted is enlisted to fill with its remote workforce. Javier envisions developer positions assuming more of an overseer role, as AI advances.

Perhaps a developer or junior developer will take on the title of AI assistant with knowledge of development, as devs will have to be AI experts first and foremost. They’ll have to know how to work with AI to create what a client needs, and then programming skills will allow an engineer to oversee what the AI is creating.

“Right now, we are writing the code and getting suggestions,” he said. “In the future, the AI will be writing the code and we’re going to make suggestions on how to improve or change it, and the AI will make the changes.”

Overall, Javier sees AI revolutionizing the sector in which he works, and helping him achieve two objectives.

“My objectives,” he said, “are to work faster and more accurately.”

Javier’s embrace of AI and the way it could change his industry is indicative of the forward-thinking, anticipatory approach that Webstarted takes in all its endeavors.

“We have been talking about AI for many, many years, but this is the first time it has actually been proven how essential and how good it can be,” Javier said. “I have been reading sci-fi since I was a kid, and up to this point AI was just a concept, something we wanted to achieve in the future. Now, with ChatGPT and all of the other products, we have proven that this can be done.”

In another example of how Javier anticipates trends, he launched Webstarted before the pandemic triggered a global shift to remote work.

The company assembles teams of remote software engineers, primarily from Latin America, for tech firms needing to scale up their operations. Webstarted prioritizes venture capital firms, and startups during any funding series.

Webstarted’s flagship product is its WebstartedHR, a product that allows companies, candidates, recruiters and agencies to work together. WebstartedHR allows a company to pivot quickly and scale up with an expanded team as demand increases.

Webstarted also offers guidance and support with:

  • Administration
  • Paperwork
  • Screening
  • NDAs
  • Hardware/software
  • Billing

By providing all of these services, Webstarted lets firms focus on the most important piece of their operation—their product. Webstarted at the same time assists software engineers looking for work.

Webstarted’s solid track record includes multiple success stories. There was the well-known software security firm that hired more than a dozen Webstarted candidates over the past three years; and the luxury watch company that filled all of its open software positions in a few months.

The Webstarted strategy addresses two critical points.

The cost of hiring software devs based in Latin America is less expensive than in the U.S. And Latin American time zones align with time zones in the U.S., so there is increased flexibility regarding collaboration and communication among remote team members.

Both of these things help ensure the seamless workflow that lies at the heart of the Webstarted strategy for team building.
