Review: Joe Nichols back stronger than ever with ‘Freaks Like Me’ single (Includes first-hand account)

It is an upbeat and fun tune, which will please fans of both traditional and modern country music. It features killer electric guitar riffs and infectious melodies and hooks. Nichols‘ voice is as smooth as silk.

From a lyrical standpoint, it is quite impressive, especially since it deals with the simple yet important values in life. It is about being proud of who you are, and not worrying about trying to fit in, or what other people may think about you. “I always get the door for a lady, I don’t care if she’s four or if she’s 80,” Nichols sings.

It was produced by acclaimed producer Mickey Jack Cones, who has worked extensively with country star Dustin Lynch, and it was penned by such songwriters as Monty Criswell, Josh Thompson and Lynn Hutton.

The Verdict

Overall, Joe Nichols’ new single garners 5 out of 5 stars. It is perhaps one of the best country singles by a male artist released this year. It is also a substantial indication that Mickey Jack Cones is a master producer in the country music world. Congratulations for a job well done.
