‘Nashville’ actor Chris Carmack talks new single ‘Being Alone’ (Includes interview)

Regarding his debut single “Being Alone,” Carmack said, “I wrote it over the course of several years. It has several incarnations. I really loved and cared about it. I wrote this in Los Angeles trying to discover my own identity, and define myself in a town where people are constantly putting labels on you, and sometimes you need to fight to keep yourself from accepting those labels. It can be a lonely struggle trying to figure out who you are. It’s a very intimate song, and I hope that people can relate to it in some way.”

From his upcoming EP, which has yet to have a release date, he listed the title track “Pieces of You” as his personal favorite song. “It’s still in the mixing phases and we are still working on that vocal, but as a song, it’s my favorite. It is a really unique song and a good indication of myself as an artist,” he said.

Carmack shared that his songwriting has been inspired by the relationships that he has been in, as well as the relationships that he has seen around him. “A lot of the times, they are diary entries and self-therapy, or conversations that I wish people would have between one another,” he said.

The Nashville heartthrob listed country songstresses Kacey Musgraves and Brandy Clark as his dream female duet choices. “They are two of my favorite female vocalists at the moment,” he said.

Each day, Carmack is motivated by his job. “I can’t necessarily pinpoint what has motivated me in the past to write these songs,” he admitted. “That is something that I have always had. I grew up playing saxophone and I told my parents that I would be playing saxophone, but it wasn’t their idea. I didn’t grow up in a very musical household, so I can’t explain the obsession I have with musical instruments and songwriting. It is almost a compulsion that has been with me my whole life. That’s the best I can do,” he said with a chuckle.

He defined the word success as being “happy in the moment.”
