On performing at the music festival in Patchogue, he said, “It feels great. I’m glad there are country fans in the North East. I’m glad that every region in the United States has a good country music fan-base.”
This past February, Nichols performed at Mulcahy’s Pub and Concert Hall in Wantagh. “That was awesome. We had a great crowd, and we had a lot of fun. It was very cool,” he said.
Regarding the new single “Undone,” Nichols said, “I think it feels like a hit. Producer Mickey Jack Cones has got another one. He has done a great job capturing the song’s energy and its intensity. It is a ballad, but it feels like it wants to take off. The message is a little suggestive and it has gotten an enormous amount of attention. It’s a great song.”
He revealed that his set-list tonight will include such hits as “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off,” “The Impossible” and “Brokenheartsville,” among others.
Nichols praised the late Merle Haggard, who was his biggest musical influence, as the “greatest songwriter that country music has ever had.”
This Father’s Day holiday was quite special for Nichols and his family, since he did not want them to get him any gifts, so he bought them gifts in return.
Speaking of family, he had nothing but the kindest words for his supportive wife. “Heather is great. She is doing awesome,” he said.
