Catching up with Neal McCoy: ‘You Don’t Know Me’ album (Includes interview)

In this new project, which is released on August 5, McCoy covers songs from the Great American Songbook. “I looked for songs that I listened too my entire life, and we put a couple in there that people are familiar with, and ones that people are unfamiliar with. I am very passionate about this new material, since it allows me to interpret and deliver the music,” he said.

He listed “In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning” as his sentimental favorite tune from the album. “My mother used to sing me that song as a small child and I always remembered that. That song meant a lot to my mother and to me,” he said.

The veteran country singer collaborated on this album with producer Steve Tyrell. “Steve is fantastic. He has a great ear and a couple of wonderful arrangers that he works with that interjected a lot of good suggestions,” he said. “Steve is a stickler for old school music to be done the right way.”

Regarding his plans for the future, McCoy said, “We are out working all summer long. We are making people smile and we have a busy schedule for the summer, and we are pretty booked in the fall. Once the folks find out about the new album, it would be great to play new songs for them.”
