Regarding his experience on the reality competition, America’s Got Talent, he said, “It was a learning experience. I had a lot of fun doing it. It was certainly a once in a lifetime opportunity and I was grateful to be a part of.”
His audition video for the show involved him performing a magic trick with judge Mel B. It subsequently went viral and was well-received by the judges. “That was a lot of fun. That was something that I planned to do, and something that I used to do when I was younger. It certainly took a lot of courage to get up there and perform that type of trick that was so intimate, with someone who is a beautiful and respected as Mel B. It was definitely a fun experience and I am glad that she enjoyed it,” he said.
He listed David Blaine as his greatest influence in magic, and he noted that growing up, he used to watch Criss Angel’s “Mindfreak” shows. “David’s street magic special on TV was what really hit me with the bug of magic. I want to be performing magic for as long as people are willing to watch. It was the coolest thing,” John said. “I used to watch Criss Angel’s show a lot as a teenager. When ‘Mindfreak’ first came out, I didn’t miss an episode. I looked at the two different magicians and gravitated towards them, and I took their different styles and borrowed some of their sources, and made them my own.”
There are a lot of things that are in the works for John in the future. “I just recently filmed a national McDonald’s commercial, which will be airing in the fall. It involves me doing magic tricks with the food products of McDonald’s, so that will be a lot of fun when that airs nationwide,” he said. “I am also working towards the college market, since I want to perform on the college circuit. I feel I will do really well there, and I hope that I will. I hope the college students will receive me well. I will give them my all and my best,” he said.
John added, “I want to perform magic for as long as I can. That is something that I am always going to be passionate about. I am also working on the acting side of things too and I want to push that as far as I can, since as a magician you are an actor, playing the part of a magician. I’ve just never played another role, so I am curious to see how good I will be at that, but magic is always going to be my first passion.”
