Stephen is a former member of the British Labour Party National Executive Committee. He has worked in 31 countries and speaks English, French and German. He spent a long time in Northern Ireland and Yugoslavia fighting against sectarianism and als spent considerable periods in the former Soviet bloc countries organizing underground opposition groups to the Stalinist dictatorships.
His areas of expertise are Russia and Eastern Europe, Western Europe and the EU and the Middle East and North Africa, as well as Al Qaeda and terrorism. Although he enjoys doing general journalism on a wide range of topical subjects.
