UPDATE: It didn't catch fire like the last installment, but "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1" opened to a hearty $17 million Thursday night. That was below the $25.2 million that "Catching Fire" took in.
"Gone Girl" won the top prize from the Hollywood Film Awards but "The Imitation Game" was the big winner. "The Imitation Game" took home actor, supporting actress and director but "Gone Girl" won film.
It is the box office calm before the storm as the world awaits "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1" next week. But, one must first get through this weekend as it looks for laughs and hoping for holdover success.
Coming off a brutal weekend at the box office, it looks like a healthy rebound is here. Just in time as this is the weekend when Hollywood kicks off the holiday season. Now, enter "Interstellar" and "Big Hero 6."
Garth Brooks came back to a familiar setting and presented the Entertainer of the Year Award as the Country Music Association Awards wrapped in Nashville. The award went to Luke Bryan. It was the last award of the night and the biggest, too.
UPDATE: "Ouija" was able to edge out "Nightcrawler" to take the Halloween weekend box office crown. However, it was nothing to write home about as the numbers were the lowest winning total of the year.
