I live in my hometown of Bentonville, Arkansas. Yes, it is also the home of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. After receiving a B.A. in political science from the University of Arkansas (Go Razorbacks!), I did my “tour of duty,” as I call it, as an Assistant Store Manager for Wal-Mart. As you would suspect, many Bentonville residents work, or have worked, for the retailer.
I did, however, return to my public service calling. I earned a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and was accepted into the Presidential Management Intern program in Washington, D.C. I’ve worked for both the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services and U.S. Dept. of the Interior.
The deaths of my parents caused me to return to my hometown. Since that time, I was the director of a branch campus for a local community college and most recently started my own business – Mathews Professional Writing Services (mathewsprowriting@gmail.com).
I enjoy working as a Digital Journalist and try to contribute interesting articles from a nonpartisan perspective.
Among my pastimes are traveling and eating at a variety of restaurants with dear friends. I’m an avid reader and also enjoy photography.
