Dr. Thomas Reid is a Hematologist-Medical Oncologist in private practice. He is originally from Harrisburg, PA. He earned his BS in Microbiology at The Pennsylvania State University and his PhD in Biochemistry at Purdue University (1981). He earned his MD at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD (1985). He completed his internship (1985-1986) and residency (1986-1988) in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Hematology-Medical Oncology (1988-1991) at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC. From 1991 to 2004, he was at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research; Chief of Blood Research for the last 3 of those years. There, his primary research interests were extended storage of blood products, blood substitutes, and coagulation disorders. From 2004 to 2008 he was Chief of Hematology-Medical Oncology at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. As Chief, he also served as Chair of the Cancer Care Committee, Co-Chair of the Institutional Review Board and Principal Investigator for Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB: a cooperative group for cancer clinical trials). After 27 years in the Army Medical Corps, he retired in 2008 as a full Colonel. Dr. Reid is board certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology and Internal Medicine.
He is married to Joy and has two sons, Chris and Tristan.
