World markets are looking for somewhere to put their money, and it’s obviously not in stocks. A combination of repositioning and what looks very like a grab for cash drove the markets into another stall and nosedive routine.

The Christian right is delighted with Sarah Palin. They consider her "one of us," a follower of the Holy Bible. But the Bible doesn't quite agree with them.

Consumers are running scared, and with good reason. As jobs collapse and credit becomes a Utopian dream, the domestic budget is an endangered species, like the dinosaurs. It’s already extinct, it just hasn’t got the details sorted out yet.

An annual test will start next Sunday to determine if computers can think well enough to fool judges into believing the computer is human during the "Turing Test." If machines are determined to have a "consciousness" will they then be given "rights"?

And the stench just keeps on growing. Fannie Mae had very few choices, and they were all ugly. Pushed by the mortgage industry, and even by Congress, the world’s biggest mortgage company found itself buying anything and everything.

We’ve just seen a terrible thing. Not the bailout, not the indecision. Those were bad, but the real stunner is that the markets can’t defend themselves. There’s a lot to be learned from the meltdown, and starting now would be a good idea.

The after effects of the current financial crisis are likely to linger, according to a current IMF report. The EU is expected to do better, with less recessionary impact. That’s cold comfort for the global economy, and the signs for the US aren't good.

I can see these debates becoming part of a new media fetish. They’re topical, you can be as “wise” as you like, and they’re fun. The world has picked up on the debates, and you can see the styles emerging. Global coverage can't get enough.

A new report indicates that some cereals are 50 per cent sugar by weight, and at least nine of the top brands are 40%. That poses a lot of problems for parents and doctors trying to deal with the epidemic of childhood obesity wrecking a generation.

NASA is now the senior citizen of the Space Age, and it’s acting like it. Current news points to a lack of direction, lack of ideas, lack of leadership, and lack of money. A midlife crisis started a decade ago, and the agency has taken some big hits.

Sarah Palin, the cutie that was supposed to help McCain defeat Obama, is fast sinking away in the mediocrity she spreads around. Now, more evidence is surfacing that she is a young earth creationist.

On the face of it, a spat between Rupert Murdoch and The New York Times could be seen as a remake of Godzilla vs. Bambi. This is a defining contrast of news media culture, and a natural confrontation, when journalism is being redefined.

It’s a matter of opinion who are the more unemployable: The Street’s plutobrats, or Washington’s morons. The markets are in severe crash mode, thanks to a herd of selfish sheep. Government By Tantrum. Clown School is open for business.

Another $25 billion is finding a use for itself providing a hand to the battered U.S. auto industry. A product line from the Stone Age and a market share which doesn’t deserve the name are the real problems. The industry is forced to reinvent itself.

PETA activists have approached the makers of Ben and Jerry's ice cream, asking them to begin using breast milk instead of cow's milk. Ben and Jerry's finds the idea absurd, saying a mother's milk is best used for her own baby.

Barack Obama hopes to appoint a Chief Technology Officer. John McCain wants to award $300 million to the inventor of an eco-friendly car battery. Now more than ever, the tech policies of candidates are under scrutiny as wired voters have their say.

Most of the post-debate polls have declared Obama the winner. The Associated Press says that Obama has a clear advantage over McCain.

The big news here is that the most glaringly obvious thing about McCain and Obama is ideas. They’re both budget focused, which is long overdue. Both are “government-minded”. That’s vital. Politics and government aren’t really the same thing.

General nuisance and inner city gargoyle. I write books, (I've published ten on lulu.com) play music, do graphics, and am roughly about that antisocial. I may well be literature's answer to Gidget.
Ah... what was the question, though?
