Hard to breathe and hard to see — Pacific Northwest wildfires

Thick smoke from wildfires in the western United States and Canada have clogged the skies across western North America, blotting out mountains and city skylines from Oregon and Colorado to British Columbia and Alberta.

Western U.S. drought taking its toll on farmers' crops and cattle

Over half the western U.S. is currently experiencing some level of drought, reports the U.S. Drought Monitor. Sparsely populated areas in Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona, in particular, are grappling with dry conditions of historic proportions.

Western US water availability projections look bleak

Washington - Projections for water resources in the western US during the 21st century show major changes on the way, as increased temperatures and decreased snowpack, precipitation and stream flow will lead to risks of water availability for humans dependent on it.
