The use of video calls and video apps brings many benefits, especially in the era of remote working. However, it does bring privacy concerns and many are unaware that they need to activate privacy features, rather than these being default settings.
Google has launched a new video calling service called Meet by Google. It's part of the company's business line-up and appears to be an alternative to Hangouts. The reasoning behind the launch isn't clear as it further fragments Google's messaging apps.
Signal, the Edward Snowden-approved messaging app famed for its security, has added beta support for video calls to its apps. The calls are fully encrypted to keep communication private. There is a potentially weakness which could leak some data though.
Bloomberg were almost entirely negative about the deal. They actually dug up a stockholder who was prepared to fret about it and the price. The Skype deal has some other facets, however, and they haven’t been mentioned.
