The Libyan government made changes in the cabinet as well as restoring a security agency from the Gaddafi era. The moves are designed to deal with a spate of bombings and other violence that has plagued the country of late.

Libya is plagued by numerous armed militias often a law unto themselves. A recent raid last weekend (June 9) on a militia base in Benghazi shows, that as many have claimed, some have their own prisons.

President Obama declared a state of emergency to deal with the Libyan situation back in February 2011 as the uprising began against Gadaffi who was killed in October the same year.

While many articles in the press continue to discuss the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi that killed four Americans including the ambassador, much less attention is given to the continuing deterioration of security in the area.

Abdelsalam al-Mahdawi. Head of the Criminal Investigation Department, was kidnapped as he stopped at a traffic light in Benghazi, while on his way to work. The identity of the kidnappers is unknown so far.
