NOAA — La Nina will give U.S. mild winter but intensify drought

NOAA's Climate Prediction Center released its winter outlook for 2020-2021 Thursday, forecasting that much of the South and Southwest of the U.S. will remain dry this winter, while the northern tier of states will have a wetter than average winter.

It's official: La Nina has arrived, but what does this mean?

A La Nina climate pattern has developed and is likely to persist through the winter, according to an advisory issued by NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center. What does this mean for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere?

There's a 50 percent chance La Niña could form this fall

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued a La Niña watch last week, which means the agency believes La Niña could form this fall. This could cause an uptick in Atlantic storm development.

NOAA — Possibility of El Niño by winter ‘nearing 50 percent’

The El Niño weather pattern, associated with warmer and wetter weather than usual that may give rise to damaging conditions, could emerge by the 2018-19 Northern Hemisphere winter.

El Nino officially gone — We can 'stick a fork in it, it's done'

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) nicknamed it "Godzilla," an apt moniker for the super-sized El Nino that has heated up the globe for the past 15 months. But finally, we can say, "Good-by and good riddance."

El Nino's impact is not over as its sibling looms — Part 2

After experiencing a record El Nino, signs are pointing to the formation of La Nina, the flip-side of El Nino, and the odds of La Nina forming have jumped to 70 percent. There is a lot of interest in how strong La Nina might be and how it will affect us.

El Nino's impact is not over as it's sibling looms — Part 1

The current El Nino weather phenomenon which began last year has affected 60 million people worldwide, leaving many countries in desperate need of assistance. But even as El Nino begins to weaken, we are not out of the woods yet.

Rising global sea levels – upward trend resumes, reports NASA

In a study issued today, NASA has reported that global sea levels have resumed their long term upward trend after a blip in 2010/11. The study was based on multi-sourced data from NASA and European Topex/Poseidon, Jason-1 and Jason-2 satellites.

Texas drought likely into 2012 as La Niña re-emerges

Dallas - Facing record-setting high temperatures with each passing day, Texas received more bad news this week as reports indicate La Niña will reform in the equatorial Pacific Ocean, suggesting the state's devastating drought is likely to extend well into 2012.
