China's ban on elephant ivory sales goes into effect Sunday

Beijing - China, the world's largest importer and end user of elephant tusks, has banned the sale of ivory with the law taking effect on Sunday. The ivory trade is responsible for the deaths of nearly 30,000 elephants every year in Africa.

Thai authorities intercept 11th ivory shipment so far this year

Thai authorities have intercepted yet another shipment of ivory, marking the 11th seizure so far this year. The shipment weighed in at approximately 250 kilograms and is estimated to be worth about $295,000.
