Power plants' coal ash reports — Toxins leaking into groundwater

Utilities with coal ash ponds were required to complete water monitoring this year. Of the first 14 to file reports, 9 had 'significant increases' of toxic substances, including arsenic that may be leaking from unlined pits and contaminating groundwater.

Louisville - Environmental groups have alerted Louisville Gas & Electric to a pending lawsuit over daily discharges of coal ash into the Ohio River. The groups have produced hidden camera evidence to back up their claims.

Eden - As many as 82,000 tons of coal ash have spilled into a North Carolina river from a disused coal plant run by the nation's largest electricity provider.
