After holding their breath for 30 years, the residents of Kodungaiyur, India sparked off protests and set the streets aflame with their presence on November 29, demanding the immediate closure of the 269-acre garbage dump yard in their area.
The manholes in Jothiammal Nagar, Chennai, overflow and fill the streets with sewage. Garbage dumped by the residents is not cleared by the civic body. The area lacks even basic hygiene. Is this the way to live?
