Will, and should, Canucks' GM Mike Gillis fire coach Alain Vigneault? The prognosticators are prognosticating on it and concluding it's in the cards, that he will. But they are wrong, he won't, and nor should he. If Gillis survives, so will his coach.

Toronto -
The Toronto Maple Leafs do not need Roberto Luongo to make the playoffs or even to have an impact in the playoffs. They also don't need him going forward from this season. In other words, the Leafs don't need Roberto Luongo, period.

|
Maybe it's the opposite of pulling a rabbit out of a hat, what Vancouver Canucks GM Mike Gillis did. Gillis had an asset, Roberto Luongo, that he no longer needed and instead of turning him into something, he turned him into nothing.

Toronto -
Here we go: they can't afford to go 8 straight seasons without the postseason. Some think it's a lock the Maple Leafs will extend their streak as the NHL team with the longest playoff drought but, well, they are wrong. They will get there.

There's no need for a recitation of the NHL deeds of Roberto Luongo, even before coming to the Canucks the gold-medal goalie was an all-star. But he has a flaw and it's one that, with the lockout now over, may prevent him from being traded this season.

Vancouver -
It's not set in stone, or even in ice, but the fact the president of the Florida Panthers, one Michael Yormark, is dining in Las Vegas with somebody tonight, Monday, and that Roberto Luongo is in Vegas, must mean something...only we're not sure what.

|
Vancouver -
It seems logical, even obvious, that the longer the Vancouver Canucks go without trading Roberto Luongo the harder it'll be to find a taker willing to make a 'hockey trade.' That will force a salary dump.

|
Canucks GM Mike Gillis is talking openly to the media about his efforts to trade goalie Roberto Luongo and says he has multiple teams bidding. But the number doesn't matter, in the end it's gotta be the Leafs.
|
|
Look, I know it makes sense to save cap space and stop all the endless fan complaints about Roberto Luongo by trading the gold-medal goalie. It just might be time. But bear with me on this because there's a far more pressing trade that needs be made.

Most guys have had a girlfriend who earned the epithet high maintenance, and doubtless there are women with stories about guys who earned it. But can a hockey player earn it? Eric Lindros comes to mind, he earned it. And now Cody Hodgson.
