More than 40 percent of California experiencing moderate drought

On Thursday, scientists announced more than 40 percent of California is experiencing a moderate drought, while state water officials confirmed lower-than-normal snowpack levels in the Sierra Nevada.

Atmospheric rivers may increase flood risks by 80 percent

In a first-of-its-kind study, the global effects and impact of atmospheric rivers on rainfall, flooding, and droughts have been estimated for the first time. The study reveals that in some regions, the risks can be increased by as much as 80 percent.

Airborne study of weather and 'rivers in the sky'

Pasadena - A new airborn study lead by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and taking place from Feb. 11 via unmanned aircraft, is expected to improve our understanding of how 'atmospheric rivers' form and behave.
