The U.S. Trade Representative said it launched a formal challenges against China, the European Union, Canada, Mexico and Turkey at the World Trade Organization on Monday in response to retaliatory tariffs on American goods.

Brussels - The European Union triggered the first phase of retaliation against the U.S. over import tariffs imposed for national-security reasons. Making good on its threat to hit the U.S. with retaliatory tariffs, the 'First Phase of Retaliation' begins on Friday.

Canada has filed an expansive complaint with the World Trade Organization accusing the U.S. of breaking international trade rules. The complaint was launched in December but was made public on Wednesday.
