After posting losses of more than $16 billion in the fourth quarter, Fannie Mae has requested $15.3 billion in additional funding from the United States Treasury.
Next week, the United States Treasury will sell $74 billion worth of debt in the form of notes and bonds. Optimism rose in Wall Street as the number of first-time claims for unemployment benefits fell for the first time in a year.
The Christmas season is quickly approaching and Washington is certainly in the holiday spirit as they are asking Americans to help pay off the national debt by donating to the Treasury.
Depending on who you read, the administration’s plan to try and take some of the heat out of the subprime mortgage situation is either getting a bit of bipartisan traction and/or generating a bit more political point scoring.
