Trump administration officials have held several meeting with Libyan politician Aref al-Nayed an alleged ally of Marshal Khalifa Haftar who took control of eastern Libya and is attacking the capital Tripoli supposedly to liberate it from terrorists.

A recent article in MiddleEastEye suggests that Khalifa Haftar, the commander of the forces of the House of Representatives (HoR) government, and his supporters have recently gained momentum on the ground and also increased their international support.

Washington - The United States Treasury Department has sanctioned Ageela Salah, president and speaker of the Tobruk-based House of Representatives (HoR) for blocking the formation of the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA).

Washington - The United States Senate has confirmed Obama's choice as US Ambassador to Libya, Peter William Bodde. He will work out of Tunis, the capital of neighboring Tunisia.

Washington - The United States has transferred nearly 200 marines from a base in Moron, Spain to the U.S. naval air station in Sigonella Italy. The group of marines is part of "crisis response" teams created after the Benghazi attack on a US diplomatic post in 2012.

Tripoli - Libya is awash with armed militias that fight with each other as they vie for power. They also often use their power to force the Libyan government to implement their own agenda.

Tripoli - There is little discussion of the legality of the seizure of suspected Al Qaeda operative Abu Anas al-Liby in front of his house in Tripoli as he arrived home from prayers except in terms of defense of its legality under US law.

Tripoli - The Libyan General National Congress demands that the US return alleged Al Qaeda operative Abu Anas al-Liby. Spokesperson for the council Omar Hmidan called the US operation a "flagrant violation of national sovereignty".

Tripoli - President Obama declared a state of emergency to deal with the Libyan situation back in February 2011 as the uprising began against Gadaffi who was killed in October the same year.
