Human Rights Watch has produced a damning report on Libya, highlighting the ineptitude of the NTC in controlling various militia groups vying for political power. Human rights abuses continue unchecked while justice only applies to the rebel victors.
Libya's interim leader, Mustapha Abdul-Jalil, reassured Libyans this weekend with the words "everything is under control," even as rival groups of rebel fighters continued to kill each other with weapons they refuse to hand over.
Vigilante NTC fighters from Misrata are conducting a campaign of abuse against their black neighbors from Tawergha. The town of 30,000 is now deserted with Misratans vowing residents will never return. The NTC has no control over the abuses committed.
Amidst those trapped in the besieged city of Sirte are 5,000 refugees who fled from Tawergah, where they claim they faced ethnic cleansing. The black African Libyan's of Tawergah are fearful of reprisals if caught by the NTC troops.
