As the Solar Impulse landed in Morocco on Tuesday night, it made it history as the first solar plane to complete an intercontinental flight. The plane, powered solely by the sun, crossed the Strait of Gibraltar from Spain.

The Solar Impulse plane completed its first international flight on May 13, 2011, soaring from its Switzerland pad to Brussels, taking about 13 hours, free of any need for fuel, capturing energy without emitting pollution.

A new record has been set. An airplane powered solely by energy generated from the sun flew for 26 hours, completing a continuous day and night flight.
