From April 19 to to 23, spoken word poets from across Canada will compete in Vancouver for a poetry slam competition where judges from the audience score each poem between 0 and 10. Daytime events include a haiku contest, workshops and panel discussions.

We know him as the managing editor of Digital Journal but David Silverberg is an up and coming poet in the city of Toronto. On Saturday June 23rd he'll host the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word team qualifier semi-finals.

Up front confessional: I co-produced the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word in October 2006, and the CFSW is a slam poetry competition pitting teams across Canada against each other. The venue is Trane Studio in Toronto.

Gulf poetry show untouched by revolution spirit
 Karen Solie, a Toronto-based poet who won the Griffin Poetry Prize in 2010 for Pigeon, is to represent Canada at a Poetry Parnassus being planned in conjunction with the London 2012 Olympics.
Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy wins the Costa poetry prize, while author Andrew Miller beats Booker winner Julian Barnes to take best novel.
Matt Smith, star of the BBC's Doctor Who, is to take part in a Disney TV show aimed at introducing poetry to young audiences.
