Tokyo - White smoke was seen at Tokyo Electric Power's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant following an explosion heard on Saturday. This is one of the two power plants that were placed under a state of emergency by the Japanese government.

Sendai - A Japanese man has committed suicide live on the Internet after first talking to users in an online chat room. Some of these tried to keep him from doing it, others egged him on. Police was also alerted by users, yet arrived at his apartment too late.
