Canadian seal quota increased but weather might kill hunt

Disregarding the collapsing market for Canadian seal products, and the spring-like conditions that have been melting the sea ice, Department of Fisheries and Oceans Minister Gail Shea announced an increase in limits to this year's seal hunt.

Over 100 Vessels Stranded in Pack Ice Off Newfoundland Coast

Over 500 fishers in approximately 100 vessels are stranded and are in the process of being evacuated. Their ships became trapped in dangerous "pack ice" off the northeastern coast of Newfoundland while seal hunting.
