On the north lawn of Queen's Park in Toronto, hundreds gathered to pay tribute and honour Canada's forgotten men and women, who lost their lives fighting in the wars and many battles since World War I.

It may surprise Canadians, and other nationals, to learn that Canada does not have a National Remembrance Day. Most provinces in the country have a statutory holiday for the day but 3 do not and nationally there's no holiday.

Thousands gathered at Queen's Park to honour the millions who have sacrificed their lives to serve their country in the midst of war, international conflicts and peacekeeping missions. Ontario officials thanked the nation's veterans on Remembrance Day.

Around the world today services were held to remember those who have died serving their country in all wars since the First World War. A service was also held at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan.

Winds were high and rain was heavy but a large crowd turned up to mark Remembrance Day during an indoor ceremony in one Nova Scotia community.
