Pat Quinn, the Big Irishman, one of the great players, great coaches, managers and storytellers of the NHL, has died at 71. Mr. Quinn passed away at Vancouver General Hospital on Sunday night after a lengthy illness.
The last year or so has been pretty good for former NHL superstar Pavel Bure. His wife, Alina, gave birth to their first child, Pavel Jr., he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and now comes news the Vancouver Canucks will retire his jersey.
The Hockey Hall of Fame can only induct four players each year and it would be hard to argue with the choices this year, announced Tuesday. Going into the Hall in a Nov. 12 ceremony will be Joe Sakic, Mats Sundin, Pavel Bure and Adam Oates.
As a hockey coach, Dusan Benicky worked with the biggest names in the NHL - Markus Naslund, Jyrki Lumme, Pavel Demitra - even Pat Quinn. Now, Benicky has been charged with sexual assault of a child who was his student 18 years ago.
