The world’s first calculator that uses light in order to perform binary calculations has been developed. All calculator developed previously rely on conventional current. The new calculator has been made possible with nanotechnology.
This year is the International Year of Light and Light-Based Technologies, backed by the United Nations. The objective is to raise global awareness of the social, economic and developmental role of light and optical technologies.

The blind may have a way to see in the near future. Israeli scientists at Bar-Ilan University have developed a non-evasive technological device that could help people born blind at birth to see using a bionic contact lens.
The bionic idea is now turning into consumer-level technology. The University of Washington has come up with contact lenses with imprinted circuitry and LED displays. A lot of uses, including web surfing, have already been thought up for this idea.
