A B.C. First Nation's plans to build a 100-bed private hospital in the Okanagan will most likely be challenged by the federal government, according to one constitutional expert.

The Westbank First Nation is planning to build a $120-million private hospital on its reserve in the Okanagan. Doctors at the 100-bed facility would perform a wide variety of medical procedures, including heart surgery, but would not provide emergency services.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada says to expect more than the 19,200 job losses forecast in last week's federal budget, as the Union of National Defence Employees says about 1,100 civilian positions are being eliminated.
