Southern Newfoundland communities are commemorating the 70th anniversary of one of the province's worst marine disasters — the wrecks of USS Truxtun and USS Pollux off Newfoundland's Burin Peninsula.


Many parts of Newfoundland and Labrador have been whipped with high winds and either rain or snow depending on local temperatures.


Schools in some coastal Newfoundland communities closed for at least the morning on Thursday, as the island was pounded by freezing rain.


A blizzard whipped into eastern Newfoundland, shutting down schools, air travel and much of the activities of daily life.


This is the last day hunters can legally shoot moose in two national parks in Newfoundland.
