The relative calm, pervasive throughout much of Iraq, may soon come to an abrupt end. Moqtada al-Sadr, the fiery cleric and outspoken opponent of the US occupation of Iraq, has ordered attacks on US troops in reprisal for recent Israeli attacks on Gaza.

Moqtada al-Sadr, who is the religious head of the Mahdi Army militia, threatened a full-scale uprising on Saturday against the U.S. backed Iraqi government if they continue widespread crackdowns on his followers.
