 Women who take estrogen after menopause appear to have a lower risk of breast cancer even years after they quit taking the hormone, indicates new research, which flies against previous studies suggesting a possible link between the hormone and breast cancer.
A reassessment of the NIH Women's Health Initiative study, which, in 2002, found that women taking estrogen were at higher risk of certain cancers and heart disease, has found that "mass fear" and not valid findings caused millions of women to unnecessarily suffer from menopause symptoms without the benefits of hormone replacement therapy.
