For centuries medics have used maggots to clean up wounds and the use of fly larvae actually has approval in the U.S. Until recently, however, no one was sure how maggots achieved their wound healing ability.
Imagine popping into the gas station for a quick snack, grabbing a Hershey bar and thinking that you're good to go. That is, until you unwrap that luscious chocolate to find maggots beating you to eat your snack! A Florida woman got such a surprise!
That's right, maggots from a dead seagull fell through the ceiling of a hospital and into the maternity unit. A spokeswoman for the Hospital called it, “an extremely unpredictable consequence of seaside living”.
