The Oakland Police Department has decided to delete license plate data after six months instead of retaining it indefinitely. The reason isn't really to give residents more privacy but rather because a Windows XP computer's 80GB hard drive is full.

Austin - On Monday, 23 March, the U.S. Supreme Court heard a free-speech challenge to the decision by the state of Texas to refuse a proposal by the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) for state-issued license plates featuring the Confederate battle flag.

Cranford - A New Jersey man succeeded in getting the state Motor Vehicles Commission (MVC) to reverse its decision after officials had earlier rejected his application for a custom license plate reading “ATHE1ST.”

Jackson - Battle lines have been drawn in Mississippi as the debate heats up over the proposal by the Sons of Confederate Veterans to issue five commemorative Civil War-themed license plates, one of which will honor Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest.

Lansing - Marvin Roberson submitted a request for a personalized (vanity) license plate at a Michigan Secretary of State office. The request must be approved by the Department of State. If approved the plate is mailed to the owner within three weeks.

Merlot can be a variety of grape or a type of red wine, but not an acceptable personalized license plate in the state of Utah.
